Quantum Computer in the Solid State

6th Collaborative QSolid Meeting in Braunschweig at PTB

The recent QSolid consortium meeting, held from March 4 - 6, 2025, in Braunschweig at Germany’s national metrology institute – the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) – brought together over 100 team members. Each of the participating institutions shared crucial updates on their contributions to research and engineering, with a collective focus on advancing Germany’s ambitions towards an error-corrected quantum computer.

Key Themes and Presentations

A primary focus of the meeting was on the critical steps toward the ultimate goal of 30 qubits with enhanced error correction, addressing the intricate challenges of system engineering. The agenda featured comprehensive presentations, with more than 30 partner updates that shed light on the latest progress and future directives. In addition to technical sessions, an outlook session set the stage for the next steps that must be achieved in the coming months, ensuring that momentum in research and engineering continues unabated.

Notable Speeches and Expert Input

The event opened with an inspiring address by Prof. Cornelia Denz, President of PTB, followed by another highlight on day two, when Prof. Christian Ospelkaus from Leibniz University Hannover and PTB delivered a keynote lecture. Additionally, on the final meeting day the consortium benefitted from the expert consultation with the project advisors, offering critical guidance for navigating the complex terrain of building an error-corrected quantum computer based on superconducting qubits.

Interactive Events and Networking Opportunities

Beyond the formal presentations, the meeting fostered an environment of active collaboration through several smaller working sessions designed to enhance teamwork within specific research areas. The agenda also included two poster exhibitions, lab tours, and dedicated networking breaks, all of which provided ample opportunities for participants to engage, exchange ideas, and strengthen partnerships.
