Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (FhG IPMS)

Fraunhofer IPMS is dedicated to applied research and development at the highest international level in the fields of photonic microsystems, microsystems technologies, nanoelectronic technologies and wireless microsystems. Innovative processes and products which are based upon our various technologies can be found in all large markets – such as information and communication technologies, consumer products, automobile technology, semiconductor technology, measurement and medical technology. For leading edge research, the business unit Center Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT) uses a broad and flexible tool and process platform on 300 mm wafers in a state-of-the-art 4000 m² CMOS cleanroom.

Role within QSolid

Fraunhofer IPMS is involved in the work package towards Technology for Hardware Integration. Here, the focus lies on developing technologies towards scalable systems. Particularly in the field of CMOS control one task of Fraunhofer IPMS will be cryogenic characterization of state-of-the-art CMOS technologies. Here, IPMS will bring in its infrastructure, competence and close relationship with modern microelectronics. Another task is developing concepts and modules for integrated packaging techniques on an interposer basis including solutions regarding thermal management and integrated, superconducting interconnects.
